When we went around Cebu City just few hours after my flight going home to Davao, I never imagined that I will be making the greatest mistake of my life which I will dread for days.

We went to the Magelan's Cross, before this visit I only get to see the cross in pictures and elementary books but now I am posing under it. The actual cross is not there anymore or is it? The cross that we see is actually a container of the actual original cross. I could imagine that the original one is already rotting away after all these years.

Even though recession-weary consumers may want to cash in frequent-flier miles to get free trips and upgrades more than ever these days, it's gotten harder to snare those awards.

Continental Airlines, the only U.S. airline to report award redemptions monthly, says awards and upgrades claimed in its frequent-flier program were down 20% in the first 10 months of 2009 compared to the same months of 2008.

And this year may be even tougher. Since airlines aggressively reduced capacity through the economic downturn, they've filled flights fuller with paying customers and appear to have reduced availability of award seats and upgrades. As the economy picks up, passenger demand for seats will get tighter.

I have been in Guimaras often these last few months and I've been wanting to go back still if given the chance. Guimaras also hosts some tourist spots like the Trappist Monastery, where monks practice the vow of silence, the Guisi Light house, the Capitol Building, Balaang Bukid, and other religious and popular tourist destinations.

There are also agri and ecotourism spots where various farms accommodates tourists and travellers.

Guimaras is truly a paradise of its own reputation, the best treat of these is the cheap fare, services and accommodation the island offer.
